SCHS Band Receives ASBDA Award of Distinction
December 2017 - Each year, the Middle TN School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA) conducts a regional concert performance assessment, in which participating ensembles receive a rating based on prepared selections and sight reading. While several bands earn a rating of superior, a few will stand out as exceptional among the many. It is for the recognition of these bands that the “Award of Distinction in Concert Performance” exists. Commissioned by the American School Band Directors Association, this special recognition is given to bands that earn a perfect score at regional concert performance assessment, achieving superior ratings in all categories, from all judges.
Earlier this year, the Stewarts Creek High School Band was one of only six (6) bands out of one-hundred fifty (150) participating to earn all superior ratings, in all categories, from all judges on prepared musical selections, and sight reading at the MTSBOA Regional Concert Performance Assessment in March.
Directors Debra Burton and Michael Chester accepted the award, on behalf of the Stewarts Creek High School Band, during the recent holiday concert at Stewarts Creek High School.
The ASBDA is comprised of approximately 700 school band directors from across the nation, 50 of which are in the Tennessee Chapter. Membership in the organization is by invitation only to public and private school band directors who have proven over time to have done exemplary work with their respective band programs. Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students for this outstanding accomplishment!
